One of the world’s most holiest places, Mount Kailash is considered a place of considerable spiritual power. Doing the kora at Kailash is considered to earn great karma. Join hundreds of pilgrims on the circuit around this holy mountain. It takes a full week of travel and acclimatization including UNESCO World Heritage sights in Lhasa to arrive at Mount Kailash. On completion of the kora, we spend a night at Everest base camp, the perfect way to wrap up this incredible 16 night journey on the roof of the world.
This trip is designed for adventurous travellers who must be in good fitness for this high altitude trek. This journey is not recommended for travellers under 12 or over 70 years of age. To provide the ultimate Tibet experience, we have hand-picked the accommodation. You will be accompanied by an experienced English speaking Tibetan guide who will really look after you throughout your journey, and play a special part in your Tibetan experience.

Begin this special pilgrimage journey in the city of Chengdu, before flying into Lhasa on the roof of the world. It takes a full week of travel and acclimatisation, including visiting UNESCO World Heritage sights in Lhasa, to arrive at Mount Kailash. From Lhasa, we head west to spend a few nights in the historic towns of Gyantse and Shigatse. Once we are more acclimatised, we head west towards Mount Kailash. Here, we join pilgrims on a three day trek around the kora of the mountain. Returning from Kailash, we spend a night at Everest Base Camp the perfect way to wrap up this incredible journey, before our return flight to Chengdu.
Arrive in Chengdu, Tibet: Arrive in Chengdu and visit the Zhuge Liang Memorial Temple and Jinli Ancient Street. Visit the Giant Panda Research and Breeding Centre and the Buddhist temple Wenshu Yuan.

Lhasa: Fly from Chengdu to Lhasa. Explore the lively Barkhor Bazaar that surrounds the venerated Jokhang Temple. Driving time: 1 hr Altitude: 3,656 m Overnight: Lhasa
Lhasa: Stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Norbulingka , meaning "Treasure Park." Visit the Norbulingka Palace and gardens, the traditional summer residence of the Dalai Lama. After lunch, visit Sera Monastery in the foothills north of Lhasa. Watch the monks engage in their daily religious debate. Altitude: 3,656 m Overnight: Lhasa
Lhasa: Start the day with a tour of the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama. After lunch visit a Tibetan rug factory to see how these beautiful rugs are made. Altitude: 3,656 m Overnight: Lhasa
Gyantse: Drive along the Friendship Highway linking Tibet to Nepal. This scenic drive offers superb views at the mystical Yamdrok Lake. We reach the historic town of Gyantse after stopping at the Karola Glacier. Driving time: 6 hrs Altitude: 3,656 m Overnight: Gyantse
Shigatse: Visit the Kumbum in Gyantse before continuing to Shigatse the traditional seat of the successive Panchen Lamas. Driving time: 2 hrs Altitude: 3,800 m Overnight: Shigatse
Shigatse: Spend the day acclimatising in Tibet’s second largest city. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in the morning and join locals on the kora. Altitude: 3,800 m Overnight: Shigatse
Saga: Depart early for a drive through ever changing amazing scenery. The harsh barrenness of the Tibetan plateau contrasts with lush grasslands and emerald lakes. We stop for dinner in Lhatse before continuing to Saga for the night. Driving time: 9 hrs Altitude: 4,610 m Overnight: Saga
Darchen: We follow the Tamachok Tsangpo River (which later becomes the Brahmaputra in India) through rolling Himalayan foothills. As you approach Darchen, watch the sunset over remote Lake Manasarovar with your first glimpses of Kailash. Driving time: 8 hrs Altitude: 4,575 m Overnight: Darchen
Kailash Kora (Day 1) : Watch the sunrise on Kailash before breakfast and starting your trek. It is a fairly easy trek with stunning views of Kailash before ascending to our overnight camp. Walking distance: 18 km. Altitude: 5,080 m Overnight: Camp: Dira-puk monastery
Kailash Kora (Day 2): Although some pilgrims do the remainder of the Kora on the second day (33 km), we take the more leisurely three days to complete the Kora. The trail ascends quickly and continues gradually for the next seven or eight kilometres before crossing a 5,600 metre pass. Dropping down the other side, there are superb views. We pass an alpine lake before the narrow valley opens up and we camp for the night. Walking distance: 22 km Altitude: 4,820 m Overnight: Camp: Zutul-puk monastery
Kailash Kora (Day 3): As most of the elevation has already been gained and lost, it is a relatively flat walk back to Darchen. The trek becomes easier and you are surrounded by beautiful scenery. Arrive back in Darchen for a late lunch and a shower at a local bath house. Walking distance: 11 km Altitude: 4,575 m Overnight: Darchen
Saga: We retrace our route to Saga, giving your body a full day to recover in the car. Driving time: 8 hrs Altitude: 4,640 m Overnight: Saga
Everest Base Camp: Today's destination is Mt. Everest's North Face. Passing the beautiful turquoise waters of Peiku Lake on the way up to Everest Base Camp, you'll arrive just before sundown. The very basic lodging of Rhongpu Monastery guesthouse offers warm hospitality and an incredible sunset on the world's largest mountain. Shigatse: Wake up to the grandeur of Everest’s north face bathed in morning sunlight. After breakfast, set off for our comfortable hotel in Shigatse. Driving time: 8 hrs Altitude: 3,800 m Overnight: Shigatse
Lhasa Airport - Chengdu: A morning drive to Lhasa airport follows the Yarlung Tsampo River and offers beautiful views of idyllic Tibetan farming villages along the way. This afternoon you bid a reluctant farewell to your guide and depart from the roof of the world. Driving time: 4 hrs Altitude: 485 m Overnight: Chengdu
